Lucius Barbour was the son of John and Delight Barber of Canton, Connecticut. When he was about ten his family (including a step mother) moved to New York State. As a young adult, Lucius traveled in the South and West before settling in Madison, Indiana, where he ran a wholsale dry-goods business. About 1845 he moved to Hartford where he remained until his death. In 1840 he married Harriet Day of Westfield, Massachusetts. His name gradually changed in spelling from Barber to Barbour. ...
